Initiative Detail

Location Information

Babakan Sari, Kiaracondong, Kota Bandung, Jawa Barat

In an age where mental health is finally receiving the attention it deserves, Puskesmas Babakan Sari stands at the forefront with their groundbreaking initiative, "Asmara Sejiwa" (Together We Address Mental Well-being). This initiative is a beacon of hope for the people of Bandung, particularly in Kiaracondong, where mental health issues are prevalent. In 2018, this district was second in the city for the number of mental disorder cases. The alarming data from PISPK indicated that only 42% of those suffering received treatment, leaving a staggering 67% untreated. These figures not only highlight the critical need for mental health services but also underscore the limited reach of existing interventions for individuals with mental health disorders (ODGJ) and those facing psychological issues (ODMK).

To tackle this pressing issue, "Asmara Sejiwa" has curated a multi-faceted approach. Their intervention spans across several crucial areas: mental health education, early detection, home visits, community health worker meetings, and mental health posyandu (integrated service posts). By establishing a robust referral system and conducting routine Mental Health Posyandu activities quarterly, they ensure continuous support and care. The referral system is particularly noteworthy, providing a tiered examination process that includes counseling and medication prescribed by psychiatric specialists. In addition, cross-sector collaboration has been pivotal, involving local social services, community leaders, youth organizations, and law enforcement to assist in managing and referring cases, as well as providing ambulance services when needed.

The impact of "Asmara Sejiwa" since its inception in October 2019 has been significant. By focusing on individuals with schizophrenia, psychotic disorders, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, and PTSD, the initiative has been instrumental in reducing risk and severity among those afflicted. With a dedicated monitoring database for medication and treatment, coupled with comprehensive screening and integration with existing mental health posyandu, the initiative has not only provided necessary care but also paved the way for a more inclusive and empathetic approach to mental health in the community. This initiative is not just a medical intervention, but a societal commitment to nurturing mental well-being in Bandung, West Java.
