The “Bidan untuk Negeri” initiative stands as a beacon of hope and change in the realm of healthcare in Indonesia. Launched in 2021, this program represents an ambitious endeavor by Dompet Dhuafa to address critical issues related to maternal and child health. The multifaceted initiative not only targets the immediate concerns of maternal and child well-being but also extends its reach to tackle the pervasive problem of stunting, a significant health issue in Indonesia, particularly in remote areas which is exacerbated by limited healthcare.

The program's comprehensive approach goes beyond the conventional boundaries of healthcare interventions. By integrating educational and economic components, “Bidan untuk Negeri” ensures a holistic strategy that not only improves health outcomes but also contributes to the long-term development and empowerment of the communities it serves. This holistic approach recognizes the interconnectedness of various factors influencing health and well-being, reinforcing the idea that sustainable change requires a concerted effort on multiple fronts.

Over the course of two years, Bidan untuk Negeri has left an indelible mark on the healthcare landscape of Indonesia. The program has successfully initiated the establishment of health-centric zones in 8 districts across 8 provinces. This strategic dispersion reflects a targeted approach to address health disparities in diverse regions, emphasizing the program's adaptability to the unique challenges faced by different communities.

The impact of "Bidan untuk Negeri" has been profound. In the village of Letekonda, Subdistrict Loura, Sumba, the program has significantly reduced the ratio of home births from 3:10 in 2021 to 0:10 in 2023. It has also contributed to the decrease in maternal and infant mortality rates in hard-to-reach areas. By empowering local midwives, the initiative strives to address the disparity of healthcare workforce distribution in remote locations, ensuring that even the most secluded areas have access to critical maternal and child health services.
